Outstanding Philadelphia Phillies home jersey worn by all-time hit leader Pete Rose during the club's 1980 World Championship season. This jersey originated from a baseball executive of the San Diego Padres, who received the jersey directly from Rose as a gift. In addition, the jersey has been photomatched by Sports Investors Authentication in four undated photos, with an apparent match to a game played on June 15, 1980 against the Padres. The white pinstripe knit jersey, with zipper front, features the Phillies team logo on the left breast and the number "14" on the right breast and reverse. "Rose" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in maroon tackle twill. The name "Rose" is chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the collar. A "Wilson 44" label appears on the left front tail. Located below the manufacturer's tag are both the year and set number ("80 5") chain-stitched in black on a small, white strip tag. Rose has inscribed the jersey "To Andy / Best Wishes / To A Great Fan / Pete Rose" in black Sharpie on the left breast, directly above the team logo. The jersey, which is original as issued, with no alterations, displays moderate wear and the zipper remains fully functional. Rose enjoyed a typical year at the plate in 1980, finishing the season with 185 hits, 42 doubles (led the league), 64 RBI, and a .282 batting average. He also made his eighth consecutive All-Star Game appearance in 1980. This is one of the finest Pete Rose game-used jerseys we have ever seen and the fact that it dates to the club's first World Championship season makes it especially significant.
