Distinctive in his abilities and personality, Hall of Famer Dizzy Dean enjoyed pitching and talking equally and was embraced by America throughout and well after his playing career. Dean’s autograph, too, had traits all its own. And here’s a stellar example! The medium is a creamy unofficial “Rawlings” sphere and Dean’s black-ink penning is unmistakable with quotation marks (a post-career trait on Dean signatures) within the upper-case “D’s.” As his autograph gradually grew in height, Dean resorted to a side panel rather than compromise his flamboyant compositions in the limited space allowed on the sweet spot.
